Kashmir terrorist attack: 2 died, 14 injured; Jaish-e-Mohammed claims the attack

Two armed police officers from Jammu and Kashmir were killed and 14 others were injured this evening when two terrorists assaulted a police bus near a police camp in Zewan, on the outskirts of Srinagar, authorities said.

An assistant sub-inspector and a section grade constable were among the officers killed. The injured have been taken to the hospital, where several are claimed to be in critical condition.

In the highly protected location that housing numerous camps of various security personnel, terrorists resorted to heavy shooting on the bus. The incident occurred in the Zewan neighbourhood.

The area has been blocked off, and a search effort has begun to find the perpetrators.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sent condolences to the families of those slain in the incident and has demanded more information. “Prime Minister @narendramodi has demanded further information about the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. He also offered his sympathies to the families of the security officials killed in the incident “The Prime Minister’s Office issued a statement on Twitter.

Former chief ministers of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti, have also expressed their sympathies to the deceased families. Ms Mufti lambasted the Center for a “false narrative of normalcy” in Kashmir, while Mr Abdullah “unequivocally condemned” the incident. “The Indian government’s fake narrative of normalcy in Kashmir has been revealed, but there has been no course correction,” she wrote in a tweet.

This attack came only days after militants opened fire on a police squad in Kashmir’s Bandipora district, killing two officers. Two police officers were seriously injured and sent to a hospital, where physicians proclaimed them dead upon their arrival. On December 10, the event occurred in Bandipora’s Gulshan Chowk.

After a recent wave of targeted attacks on migrant workers and members of Kashmir’s minority populations, this is the valley’s second big terrorist attack. According to the authorities, all of the terrorists responsible for the target assassinations were slain in a series of engagements over the last two months. According to ANI, Kashmir IG Vijay Kumar, the Jaish-e-Mohammed terror organisation has claimed responsibility for the Kashmir terror assault earlier today.
