Rajnath Singh releases Rs 320 crore to clear backlog of veterans welfare scheme

On the occasion of Veterans’ Day on Friday, the Defence Ministry has set aside Rs 320 crore to reduce the backlog of outstanding applications for assistance programmes for widows and dependent children of veterans.

On the occasion of Armed Forces Veterans’ Day, which is observed every year on January 14th, the ministry unveiled a plethora of programmes aimed at the welfare of ex-servicemen and their families.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced in a series of tweets that the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare (DESW) has given the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund (AFFDF) Rs 320 crore to clear the backlog of pending applications for welfare schemes, particularly education and marriage grants for widows and dependent children of veterans.

Over 1,66,000 ex-wards servicemen’s and widows will profit from this.

The Kendriya Sainik Board manages the Armed Forces Flag Day Finance, which is used to fund a variety of welfare programmes for ex-servicemen, widows, and dependents. These welfare programmes attempt to offer financial help to ex-servicemen, widows, and dependants, as well as maintain different facilities for ex-servicemen and their dependents, such as Cheshire Homes, Paraplegic Homes, and War Memorial Hostels.

From April to December 2021, the Directorate General of Resettlement provided roughly 7,900 job letters to retired ex-servicemen in the government sector, PSUs, banks, and the private sector, out of a total of over 22,000 re-employments.

The goal is to make it easier for ex-servicemen to find work in the private sector.

The Directorate-General Resettlement is an associated office of the Ministry of Defense that organises pre and post-retirement training, re-employment, and self-employment for ex-servicemen.

Every year, about 60,000 Armed Forces people retire or are discharged from active duty, the majority of them are between the ages of 35 and 45 and in need of a second profession to support their families.

The Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare also created a specialised Raksha Pension Shikayat Nivaran Portal to help ex-servicemen and their dependents quickly resolve pension, especially family pension-related concerns. The DESW will be able to process grievances more rapidly thanks to the site.

An SMS and e-mail will be sent to the applicants on their registered mobile number and e-mail address, confirming the registration of their grievance and allowing them to follow its progress.
