On the occasion of Makar Sankranti, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath enjoyed ‘khichdi’ at the home of a Dalit party worker, Amrit Lal Bharti.
The Chief Minister sat on the floor with Bharti, eating the traditional rice and lentil meal.
This is part of the BJP’s Dalit outreach, and this type of food sharing, known as ‘Sahbhoj,’ is something the party and RSS do on a regular basis.
The event, however, takes on added significance because it occurs so close to the state’s much-anticipated Assembly elections.
Yogi Adityanath told the media that he took part in the “Sahbhoj” as part of the “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas” initiative.
He claimed that the federal and state governments’ programmes have helped even the lowest of the impoverished.
The visit, according to the Chief Minister, was conducted in complete accordance with Covid policy.
Meanwhile, Bharti’s family expressed their delight at having the Chief Minister as a visitor.
“For the occasion, we made khichdi, papad, and a few other foods,” the family’s ladies remarked.
